Job Summary:
Reporting to the Director, Mine Engineering, the Principal Mining Engineer will complement the company’s technical services team in the Vancouver corporate office by supporting a range of operational improvement initiatives and challenges across our mine sites in Canada, the USA, Mexico, and Brazil. This role is ideally based in Vancouver, although candidates from other locations may be considered, provided they are able to travel to Vancouver and our mine sites regularly. The ideal candidate has strong operational skills as well as a willingness to travel (estimated up to 30% of the time) to support the mine site teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Identify value-adding opportunities while conducting site audits
- Deliver on continuous improvement initiatives
- Ensure safety and regulatory compliance
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve production targets
- Benchmark Equinox Gold’s operations internally and against industry peers
- Undertake equipment trade-off studies and cost estimation
- Support underground mining method trade-off studies
- Advise site teams on operational best practice for both open pit and underground mining.
Specialist Skills Required:
- Experience in hard rock open pit mines as a production engineer, production superintendent or manager
- Underground mining experience in similar roles is a plus
- Proficient in utilizing fleet management systems to optimize operations
- Exposure to autonomous mining systems (trucks and drills)
- Experience in mining equipment and mining method trade-offs
- Experience in a range of commodities, with a preference for gold
- Continuous improvement experience is a plus
- Underground drill and blast experience would be an asset
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels (including senior management, technical teams, and operations) through reports and presentations and delivering sound and respected professional advice
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Degree in Mining Engineering or other related mining discipline
- Preferably a minimum of 15 years of experience mainly in operational mining roles
- Fluent in English – spoken and written. Portuguese and/or Spanish is an asset
- Membership of an industry recognized professional organization.
The salary range for this position is from $140,000 to $170,000 plus bonus and other benefits.
