Job Title:  Environmental Systems & Compliance Specialist

Equinox Gold is a growth-focused Canadian mining company with four operating gold mines, and a clear path to achieve more than one million ounces of annual gold production from a pipeline of development and expansion projects.

Job Summary

This role supports the EQX Technical Services Department in the implementation and management of environmental systems and standards across all operations, with a focus on improving the effectiveness and efficiency of associated business processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage corporate environmental management and performance standards.
  • Support sites in their application of internal systems and standards, as well as the Mining Association of Canada – Towards Sustainable Mining Protocols and the World Gold Council – Responsible Gold Mining Principles.
  • Coordinate with site teams on ESG data details to improve data quality for trend analysis and system improvements.
  • Maintain environmental data collection and analysis processes, including but not limited to data classification, verification, and trend analysis.
  • Participate in internal audits and assessments related to environmental performance and compliance with environmental management systems and performance standards. 
  • Support consistency of data reporting amongst business units and other corporate departments.
  • Ensure due diligence and audit requirements are integrated into the assessment and analysis of environmental data.
  • Support ESG reporting of environmental data, including climate water, waste, biodiversity, and reclamation.
  • Coordinate efforts with other corporate teams to develop highly integrated programs and services to support a “One Equinox” approach to management systems. 
  • Support alignment of environmental programs with overall corporate mandates and objectives.
  • Liaise and provide support on implementation of corporate environmental programs to site operations management, which includes performance and compliance analyses, and support in KPI development.
  • Understand Equinox’s business strategies and recommend environmental strategies and initiatives to support those needs.
  • Provide education and coaching to help others understand the application of environmental policies, programs, procedures, and technologies.
  • Provide technical understanding of environmental policies, processes, and systems. 
  • Lead by demonstrating the required behaviours, attitudes, and mindset to further develop an already strong corporate environmental culture.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of all applicable legislation, standards, and guidelines to support compliance.
  • Maintain knowledge of current environmental management practices and technologies by monitoring mining industry and regulatory trends.

 

Required Experience and Skill Set

  • 3+ years of environmental experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of environmental management systems, programs, and data analysis methodologies.
  • Industrial construction, pipeline, and/or mining industry experience preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including verbal and written communication skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of environmental policies, standards, legislation, and procedures pertaining to the mining industry.
  • Ability to take initiative and work interactively with people of different technical and educational backgrounds on environmental issues.
  • Ability to cooperate and deal tactfully with others in a team environment to develop collaborative solutions.
  • Strong leadership skills in the form of strategic thinking ability, approach to relationship building, teambuilding, and the ability to build mutual trust and respect.
  • Demonstrates sound judgment through effective written and verbal communication of technical knowledge related to environmental matters.

Certifications

    Education

    • Certificate, Diploma, or Degree in Environmental Studies or related discipline.

     

    The salary range for this position is from $76,600.00 to $119,600.00.
