Job Summary: Reporting to Exploration Manager, the Project Geologist will support resource growth and exploration activities on the company’s projects in southern California at Mesquite and Castle Mountain. This position involves planning and executing exploration programs, collecting and interpreting data, and contributing to the development of mineral resources.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Drill core and RC chip logging of structure, lithology, alteration, mineralization and sample intervals into database management software.
- Assist with sample tracking and sample management for drill programs and exploration projects; maintain QA/QC protocols for data input.
- Supervise drilling and field programs to ensure efficient and safe execution, including safety and progress checks at RC and core drills.
- Assist the Senior Geologist and Exploration Manager in data integration, geologic interpretations, geologic models, drill planning, and permitting.
- Perform geological pit and outcrop mapping, rock chip and soil sampling.
- Compile and interpret geological maps and geochemical data.
- Utilize mapping, drilling, 3D models, geophysics, and geochemistry for target generation.
- Assess and prioritize targets from unexplored to advanced resource stages.
- Manage field crews and contractors during exploration activities.
- Supervise and train geologists and technicians.
- Contribute to short- and long-term planning within the exploration department to align with operational and strategic objectives.
- Assist with preparation of weekly, monthly, technical reports and presentations.
- Communicate findings to senior geologists and management.
- Excel in safety, environmental and regulatory compliance.
- Maintain and improve SOPs related to the responsibilities outlined above.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
- 3-8 years of experience in exploration and/or mine geology.
- Experience working in remote or rotational operations is an asset.
- Good understanding of the geology and mineralization of western US ore deposits.
- Demonstrated success in value-added technical and economic assessment of early- to advanced-stage exploration targets in green- and brownfields environments.
- Proficient with Microsoft suite.
- Proficient in geological software (e.g., Leapfrog, Vulcan, Acquire, Datamine, Micromine, Minesight, QGIS, ArcGIS).
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
Certifications: Valid Class C driver’s license
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Geology required. Master’s degree in Geology is desirable.
Job Conditions:
- Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Full verbal and written proficiency in English.
- Travel to projects within California and the western US.
- Ability to carry loads of up to 50 pounds.
- Drive pickup trucks up to 4 hours per day on paved roads and gravel tracks.
- Safe tool operation; ability to be trained on equipment.
- The worksite has frequent exposure to extreme temperatures, dust and high wind conditions and occasional flash flooding.
- The mine site also has a daily blasting schedule that can be felt and heard throughout the property.
- There is a variety of desert wildlife around office buildings and throughout the mine property that may or may not be dangerous and /or poisonous or protected species.
- Frequently required to stand and walk throughout a mining property through hot, flat or sloping environments which could be hazardous in the absence of due care.
The annual pay range for this position starts at $87,900.00 - $117,200.00 based on experience
