Job Title:  Mining Engineer in Training (EIT)

The Greenstone Mine commenced production in May 2024 and will be one of Canada's largest open-pit gold mines, with annual production expected to average nearly 400,000 ounces of gold per year for an initial 14-year mine life with additional potential from a large underground deposit. Greenstone Gold Mines LP is owned by Equinox Gold Corp, a Vancouver-based mining company with four operating mines in Canada, the United States, Mexico and Nicaragua.

Job Summary

We are seeking a Drill & Blast Engineer-in-Training (EIT) to join the team. Reporting to the Short-Range Mine Planning Engineer, the Drill & Blast EIT provides engineering design and technical support for drill and blast activities.

14 days on / 14 days off fly-in fly-out (FIFO) rotational role based in Geraldton, Ontario.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and review drill patterns in Deswik for our fleet of production and support drills.
  • Prepare loading instructions for the Dyno blasting team.
  • Monitor the progress and quality of drilling and loading activities in the field.
  • Design electronic blast sequences for loaded drill patterns using Dyno’s ViewShot3D.
  • Film, document, and evaluate the results of blasts.
  • Propose and implement improvements to the drill and blast process from design to execution.
  • Ensure rigorous compliance with established best practices.
  • Follow proper document control to ensure information is organized and readily accessible.
  • Create and maintain standard operating procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

Required Experience & Skill Set

  • A strong commitment to safety.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Rigorous attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft 365 productivity suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook).
  • Experience with CAD software; Deswik preferred.
  • Experience in drill and blast design is considered an asset.
  • Strong spatial and analytical skills.
  • Willingness to adapt and work in an inclusive environment.
  • 1+ year of experience in the mining industry; hard-rock open-pit mining experience preferred.

Job Conditions

  • Full proficiency in English.

Certifications

  • Valid driver's license.
  • Eligibility, or progress toward eligibility, for registration with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or related discipline.

The salary range for this position is from $100,966.00 to $123,403.10.
