General Objectives:

Reporting to the General Manager, the Mine Manager will lead and manage the safe and efficient operation of all mine related activities to deliver production targets within cost and operational constraints with full oversight responsibilities for Mining Operations, Mine Maintenance, and Mine Engineering. The position will plan, administer, and review the production activities of an open pit mining operation to optimize resource use, minimize costs, and maintain quality standards while adhering to the requirements of the various Mesquite Mine permits and with state and federal laws and regulations.

 

 

Overview of Responsibilities:

  • Provide balanced, strategic leadership in all functions and activities of the Mining Department to maximize productivity at the most reasonable cost. This includes mining operations, equipment maintenance, budgeting, and cost controls.
  • Support the development, execution, and ongoing optimization of operational and asset management strategies.
  • Oversee execution of a mine plan, including continual technical and procedural improvements in mine operations to ensure achievement of a predictable Life of Mine plan, production volume and ore quality to meet deadlines and cost goals. Ensure best practice methods and continuous improvement systems are developed and maintained for the Mine Department.
  • Development of all mine operations expense and capital budgets, including workforce planning.
  • Evaluate, coordinate, and implement all phases of mining activities including drilling and blasting, waste removal, water management, and ore haulage.
  • Work collaboratively with mine maintenance, mine engineering, support services, human resources, safety, supply chain, finance, and process areas to achieve all business plan objectives.
  • Maintain and drive continuous improvement in mining operations, maintenance, forecasting, budgeting, cost controls and reporting.
  • Follow safe work procedures and best practices.
  • Enforce company and department safety and occupational health policies and MSHA regulations.
  • Responsible for ensuring a safe work environment with a continuous focus on improving the safety cultures and safety performance of the mine.
  • Responsible for employee training and development in the Mine Operations department. Specific activities include staffing, training staff, progression plan administration, work practices, skills development, available mine equipment and production plan commitments.
  • Seek opportunities to grow inter-departmental partnerships to promote teamwork and deliver optimized results.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mining, Geological or Civil Engineering. Equivalent experience (15 years or greater) is acceptable in lieu of a technical degree.
  • Minimum of ten years in a senior mine management/operations capacity in a base metal or precious metals open pit operation holding increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Five or more years of overall progressive supervision experience. Relevant experience in open pit operations,preferred.
  • Knowledge of open pit operations including strong problem-solving ability in a technically difficult ore body.
  • Strong Character with exceptional leadership and management skills.
  • Must be initiative-taking and can multitask in a highly dynamic production team environment.
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of the organization and government agencies.
  • Strong safety commitment and improvement mindset.
  • Moderate to advanced knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite; Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Project.
  • Advanced knowledge of mine planning and geological related software programs.
  • Ability to listen to employees’ suggestions and concerns.
  • Responsible for communicating goals and information to Mine Operation department employees.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to coach, mentor, and lead the Mine Operation team.

 

The salary pay range for this position is $170K-$210k based on experience.
