Job Title:  Metallurgy Engineer in Training (EIT)

The Greenstone Mine commenced production in May 2024 and will be one of Canada's largest open-pit gold mines, with annual production expected to average nearly 400,000 ounces of gold per year for an initial 14-year mine life with additional potential from a large underground deposit. Greenstone Gold Mines LP is owned by Equinox Gold Corp, a Vancouver-based mining company with seven other operating mines in the United States, Mexico and Brazil.

Greenstone Mine is seeking an Metallurgy Engineer in Training (EIT) to join our team. Reporting to the Senior Metallurgist, the EIT is responsible for assisting the operation and metallurgical department to improve performance, stability, and overall efficiency of the plant.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE:
•    Exercise safe work practices as per the mining regulations.
•    Work closely with production and maintenance teams along with outside departments to ensure environmental compliance and safe functionality of the plant operation and maintaining of equipment
•    Generate prompt and precise metallurgical reports
•    Perform metallurgical test work and routine metallurgical functions, as required, in the Metallurgical Laboratory
•    Conducting quality control programs, operating procedures and control strategies
•    Monitoring plant performance, identifying sources of variability and making recommendations for improvement
•    Conducting analysis on process plant samples
•    Ensuring the process plant meets its targets for throughput, recovery and product quality in a safe and cost-effective manner
•    Maintain and manage agreed projects to improve the Metallurgical performance of the plant within established operational parameters to ensure identify target are met ensuring maximum metal extraction at minimal cost
•    Actively participate in continuous improvement programs which will assist in enhancing the performance
•    Be a team leader with excellent communication skills and be able to provide technical assistance and analysis to stakeholders
•    Undertake other duties as required by Processing Manager and Metallurgical Superintendent

 

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
•    Basic knowledge in Metallurgical accounting, plant optimization, Metallurgical test work procedures and metallurgical laboratory management
•    Must possess strong analysis background
•    Applicant should be a good team player and willing to work beyond normal working hours if the need arise
•    Must be proactive and have the drive to initiate challenging work
•    Proficient in the use of MS Office, Advanced Excel, Projects, and PowerPoint
•    Must have valid driver’s license

 

EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION
•    Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical, Chemical, Mineral Engineering or its equivalent/related field

•    Prior experience in an mineral processing plant is an asset

 

LOCATION
•    This position will be based in Geraldton, Ontario.
