Job Summary:

The Compliance Specialist supports the organization’s internal control and compliance activities by collaborating with Finance, Human Resources, Information Technology, Operations, and other business teams. This position assists with integrating effective controls into business processes and systems, maintaining accurate documentation, supporting data integrity, and identifying opportunities to improve process efficiency. The role also supports system implementations, process changes, compliance monitoring, audit activities, and the resolution of control-related issues. This position is well suited for a professional with experience in compliance, internal controls, HRIS, ERP, payroll, finance systems, business analysis, data analysis, or process improvement

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with business teams to support the implementation and maintenance of internal controls across operational, financial, human resources, payroll, and system-related processes
  • Support Finance, Human Resources, Information Technology, and Operations in incorporating appropriate controls into routine business activities.
  • Assist with reviewing business processes, system workflows, and data practices to identify control gaps, process inefficiencies, data-integrity concerns, and compliance risks.
  • Support system implementations, upgrades, interfaces, and process changes by documenting business requirements and identifying relevant control, compliance, and data-validation considerations.
  • Collaborate with HRIS, ERP, payroll, finance, and other system stakeholders to support consistent processes, reliable information, appropriate access, and accurate system data.
  • Assist with system testing, data validation, reconciliation, and post-implementation reviews to confirm that business and control requirements are operating as intended.
  • Support compliance with internal policies, corporate standards, established procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Assist with the implementation, administration, and monitoring of compliance and internal control programs.
  • Track control deficiencies, compliance-related issues, and corrective actions, and collaborate with responsible stakeholders to support timely follow-up and remediation.
  • Develop and maintain process documentation, including workflows, procedures, control descriptions, testing records, business requirements, and user guidance.
  • Assist with gathering and analyzing system, process, and compliance data to identify trends, exceptions, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Prepare reports, summaries, and supporting documentation for management review, audit requests, compliance monitoring, and process-improvement activities.
  • Provide practical support and guidance to stakeholders regarding control requirements, documentation expectations, data integrity, and compliance practices.
  • Support external and internal audit activities by coordinating information requests, gathering documentation, and facilitating communication among auditors and business teams.
  • Collaborate with process owners and system users to support sustainable improvements that balance compliance requirements with operational efficiency and user needs.
  • Maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive employee, financial, payroll, system, and business information.
  • Participate in meetings, system projects, compliance initiatives, and other cross-functional assignments as required.
  • Travel required at least twice a quarter, once to each mine site.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

 Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

  • Minimum of eight years of related experience in internal controls, compliance, HRIS, ERP, payroll, finance systems, business analysis, risk management, data analysis, or process improvement; specifically, within the mining industry is required.
  • Working knowledge of internal controls, compliance principles, business-process documentation, and data-integrity practices.
  • Knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley requirements and the COSO internal control framework is preferred.
  • Experience working with HRIS, ERP, payroll, finance, or other enterprise business systems; experience with SAP, Microsoft Dynamics, SuccessFactors, ADP, or comparable platforms is preferred.
  • Experience supporting system implementations, upgrades, configuration, integrations, testing, data validation, reconciliations, or process changes is preferred.
  • Ability to understand system workflows, data dependencies, business requirements, and control points.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to review data, identify inconsistencies, and recommend practical improvements.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain process documentation, procedures, workflows, control narratives, and supporting records.
  • Strong written, verbal, organizational, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively and explain system, process, and compliance information to technical and nontechnical stakeholders.

Certifications: None required.

Education: Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

 

Working Conditions:
Work is performed at an active mine site that may include open pit mining, processing facilities, leach pads, maintenance areas, and office environments. Employees may be exposed to extreme weather conditions associated with a desert climate, including high heat, cold temperatures, wind, dust, and occasional precipitation or flash flooding. Depending on the role, work areas may involve proximity to large mobile equipment, moving mechanical parts, blasting activities, noise, vibration, diesel exhaust fumes, chemicals, fuels, oils, airborne particles, or other industrial hazards typical of mining operations. Outdoor work on uneven or rough terrain is common for many roles. Employees may encounter desert wildlife and native plant life. Required personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn as determined by job duties, task hazards, and work location. PPE includes, but is not limited to, hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, safety footwear, and other PPE as determined by job task and location.

Physical Demands:
Manual dexterity; handling and grasping; fingering and fine motor skills; speaking clearly; hearing in speech, radio, and environmental ranges; seeing, reading, and comprehension; near and distant vision; depth perception. While performing job responsibilities, employees must be able to communicate effectively and maintain situational awareness in an active mining environment. Physical activities may include standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, climbing, kneeling, crouching, or working on uneven surfaces. Use of hands and fingers to operate tools, equipment, controls, or computer systems is required. Specific physical demand requirements will be provided during the interview process. Employees may be required to work while wearing the required PPE, including respiratory and hearing protection. The salary range for this position is from $107,416.00 to $143,221.00.
