Job Title:  Health & Safety Coordinator II

Job Summary

We are seeking an Operations Health and Safety Coordinator to join our team. Reporting to the Health and Safety Superintendent, the Operations Health and Safety Coordinator is responsible for assisting with the development and implementation of the Health and Safety program within the mine.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the development and review of health and safety rules, policies and procedures in accordance with site, company and government regulation and legislation.
  • Verify that the Health and Safety Management System is understood by all employees and contractors through surveillance audits and directly engaging with all.
  • Facilitate and participate in incident/accident investigations and risk assessments.
  • Develop and promote the adoption of new safety training programs and practices while maintaining a strong base of core safety practices.
  • Assist with firefighting, mine rescue and other emergency planning preparations and related activities.
  • Maintain and report health and safety statistics.
  • Participate in daily safety interactions with employees including safety inspections and audits, identifying potentially hazardous situations.
  • Conduct inspections to ensure that health and safety requirements and governmental legislation is being followed.
  • Coach and mentor employees to work safely.

Required Experience and Skill Set

  • 5+ years of experience in a health and safety role within the mining industry.
  • A combination of experience and training that demonstrates the ability to perform the key responsibilities of the position.
  • Advanced knowledge of the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations for mines and processing plants.
  • Experience with Health and Safety software programs.

Certifications

  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional Designation or recognized degree in Occupational Health and Safety is an asset.

  • High school diploma, General Education Development (GED), or combination of education and work-related experience.
