Job Summary

Reporting to Regional Vice President Exploration, Canada, the Director of Exploration, Newfoundland is responsible for ensuring the continued success of the exploration program at the Valentine Gold Mine. The successful candidate will oversee exploration programs, manage geological teams, and ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards. This role plays a critical part in, but not limited to, identifying new mineral resources, expanding existing reserves, designing and managing various exploration programs throughout the property.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement the mine’s exploration strategy in alignment with corporate goals.
  • Identify and prioritize exploration targets to support resource growth and mine life extension.
  • Ensure the quality and accuracy of exploration program planning.
  • Negotiate and manage contracts across the department.
  • Interpret geological data and generate models to support resource estimation.
  • Collaborate with technical teams to integrate exploration results into mine planning and development.
  • Lead and mentor a team of geologists, technicians, and field staff.
  • Foster a culture of safety, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure all exploration activities comply with health, safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
  • Prepare and QP technical reports, presentations, press releases, and updates for senior management and stakeholders.
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies, Indigenous communities, and other stakeholders as required.
  • Support permitting and community relations efforts related to exploration.
  • Ensure the project is on schedule and budget. Where variance exists, establish a plan of action to correct or communicate the variance, and ensure mitigation plans are approved prior to implementation. 
  • Report progress and forecast progress regularly and transparently. 
  • Evaluate new staking and acquisition opportunities for technical and strategic merit.
  • Ensure a high level of data quality, security and QA/QC.Ensure timely and accurate internal and external reporting, including management updates, regulatory filings, technical disclosures, and investor communications.

Require Experience and Skills

  • Minimum 13 years' progressive experience in the mineral exploration and mining industry, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven track record in gold exploration and resource development. Mine scale exploration and production geology is considered an asset.
  • Strong understanding of geological modeling software (e.g., Leapfrog, QGIS, Acquire, Datamine, ArcGIS).
  • Excellent understanding of geological processes and settings, deposit models and processes associated with orogenic gold deposits.
  • Demonstrated success in value-added technical and economic assessment of early- to advanced-stage exploration targets in green- and brownfields environments.
  • Experience in identifying opportunities, securing new projects, negotiating agreements, and designing and implementing exploration programs.
  • Strong understanding of mining operations, as well as basic understanding of milling and maintenance operations.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and project management skills.
  • Experience working in remote or rotational operations is preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of a broad range of exploration techniques, particularly those related to gold deposits.
  • Must be able and willing to travel to site and within Canada.
  • Must be able and willing to work at a remote and rotational operation.

Certifications

  • Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.) designation or equivalent.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology or related discipline; Master’s degree or PhD in Geology or a related field is preferred.

The expected salary for this position ranges from $190,400.00 to $240,700.00.
