Job Summary
We are seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our team. Reporting to the Engineering Superintendent, the Senior Geotechnical Engineer is responsible for all operational geotechnical tasks at the mine site.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the geotechnical team and associated responsibilities within an open pit mining environment.
- Develop and manage a geotechnical planning schedule in accordance with the short and mid-range mine plans.
- Supervise geotechnical personnel responsible for the management of underground voids, exclusion zones, rock mechanics, wall stability, dump stability, and monitoring.
- Oversee practices for use of slope stability radar as a geotechnical monitoring tool for the open pit operation.
- Ensure adequate inventory of geotechnical instrumentation.
- Manage, budget, and coordinate work with contractors and geotechnical consultants.
- Develop procedures to support the mine engineering and mine operations teams in any geotechnical-related requests.
- Maintain working databases related to geotechnical activities, including voids, probe holes, geotechnical inspections, and rockfalls.
- Develop and ensure compliance with the geotechnical surveillance program.
- Promote safe working practices and regularly complete planned job observations, job hazard analysis, risk assessments and non-routine hazardous task forms.
- Maintain and update the site’s ground control management plan.

- 8+ years of experience in the mining industry.

- Supervisory experience is an asset.
- Slope stability radar experience is preferred.
- Experience with mining and geotechnical software, including Deswik and the Rocscience suite, is preferred.
