The Greenstone Mine commenced production in May 2024 and will be one of Canada's largest open-pit gold mines, with annual production expected to average nearly 400,000 ounces of gold per year for an initial 14-year mine life with additional potential from a large underground deposit. Greenstone Gold Mines LP is owned by Equinox Gold Corp, a Vancouver-based mining company with seven other operating mines in the United States, Mexico and Brazil.
Job Summary
We are seeking a Roads and Dumps Supervisor to join our team. Reporting to the Mine Operations Senior Supervisor, the Roads and Dumps Supervisor will oversee responsibilities for the mine haul roads, waste dumps, and stockpiles. The position will construct, maintain and review all haul roads and dumping areas at Greenstone, as well as perform various ancillary activities for Mine Operations.
This is a site based position, working on a 14 days on/14 days off (days and nights) rotation at the mine site in Geraldton, ON.
Key Responsibilities
- Promote a strong safety culture through visible leadership and abiding by the company and legislated safety rules and procedures.
- Contributes to the department’s health, safety and environmental goals and objectives by completing workplace inspections, hazard assessments, reporting safety concerns and incidents, completing incident investigation, and identifying and implementing corrective actions.
- Ensure team adherence and compliance to human resources policies and procedures, and manage employee performance and development.
- Responsible for haulage performance in meeting established metrics such as average fleet speed, dump queue time and others as defined by the mine management team.
- Oversee the daily operation of multiple pieces of heavy equipment including excavators, dozers, rubber-tired dozers, support loaders, graders, water trucks, articulated rock trucks, etc.
- Ensure construction and ongoing maintenance of haul roads is executed to meet safety, environmental and operational and requirements.
- Ensure roads, dumps and stockpiles meet design parameters by using modern technology and coordinating with engineering teams.
- Provide inputs to the Engineering team regarding required road maintenance activities and participate to the planning processes.
- Allocate resources and prioritize tasks to achieve the various plans.
- Implement traffic management plans for all mining areas, ensure compliance to standards (signage, access control, intersection design, etc.).
- Provide daily feedback and ongoing coaching to equipment operators to improve efficiency, skill development, and adherence to best practices in road building and dump management.
- Maintain accurate shift reports, equipment utilization logs, and performance data. Communicate effectively with cross-functional teams including Mine Operations, Mine Maintenance, Technical Services, etc.
- Monitors production costs and adjusts processes and resources to minimize costs.
- Contributes to annual and long-term budget process.
Required Experience and Skill Set
- 5+ years of progressive experience in open-pit mining operations with a focus on haul road or dump management.
- Previous supervisory or leadership experience in a mining environment.
- Valid driver’s license required; supervisory certifications (e.g., Mine Supervisor Certification) are an asset.
- Familiarity with environmental and safety agencies, as well as compliance reporting.
- Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills, including planning and performance analysis.
