Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Conveyor Belt Technician.  The Conveyor Belt Technician reports to the Mill Maintenance Senior Reliability Supervisor and is responsible for overseeing the installation of replacement belts, maintaining and repairing conveyor belts, inspecting belts for wear and tear, splicing and replacing damaged sections, and ensuring proper alignment for optimal performance. The role requires mechanical skills, attention to detail, and knowledge of different belt materials and configurations.

This role follows a 14-day rotation of 12-hour shifts with 14 days off. It is based at the Geraldton, Ontario mine site.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform physical manual labor outdoors in a mining environment.
• Use conveyor belt working tools and equipment with mechanical aptitude.
• Perform conveyor belt splicing using knowledge of belts and related equipment.
• Perform lap splices, finger splices, and cable belt splices.
• Maintain conveyor belt cleaning systems, rubber skirting, and the conveyor tensioning system.
• Track conveyor belts properly.
• Perform basic rigging, lifting, and slinging.
• Repair or replace lagging, including ceramic, poly, and rubber lagging.
• Promote safety by adhering to company safety guidelines, including the proper use and safe handling of tools, equipment, materials, and personal protective gear.
• Follow emergency response protocols.
• Multitask, meet deadlines, and work independently and as part of a team.
• Communicate verbally and in writing in a clear, effective, and professional manner.
• Document job site work as required, including materials, labor, and other costs used on jobs.

Required Experience and Skill Set

• Experience in conveyor belt repair and maintenance.
• Experience in construction, mining, and heavy industry environments is preferred.
• Beginner/intermediate computer skills, including proficiency in Word, Excel, and Outlook, are preferred.
• Demonstrated working knowledge of OSHA and MSHA safety standards, training, and compliance issues.
• Knowledge of relevant safety standards and willingness to use protective clothing and equipment (face shield, gloves, etc.).
• Ability to work in confined spaces.
• Capable of walking long staircases and steep inclines.
• 3 years of proven experience in maintaining industrial conveyor systems.
• Technical knowledge and proficiency in belt splicing techniques, including vulcanizing and mechanical splices.
