Job Title:  Lead Technician

Job Summary

Reporting to the Exploration Superintendent and working closely with Senior Geologists, the Lead Technician supports the execution of exploration programs across the company’s Ontario assets, with primary responsibility for technician-led field activities related to drilling, sampling, logistics, and regional exploration support. The role provides day-to-day leadership to geological and field technicians and contractors, ensuring exploration programs are delivered safely, efficiently, and in alignment with operational priorities.

This position is based in Geraldton, ON on a rotational schedule, with preference given to candidates residing in Northwestern Ontario or surrounding regions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate daily drilling, sampling, and field activities for technicians, contractors, and support crews.
  • Support drillhole layout and drill site preparation.
  • Conduct drill site inspections and monitor progress at active drilling sites.
  • Ensure safe site access and compliance with environmental, permitting, and land use requirements.
  • Oversee core handling activities, including layout, washing, photography, cutting, sampling, and secure storage.
  • Collect, transport, and organize samples and QC materials, and maintain sample tracking systems to ensure chain of custody and timely laboratory delivery.
  • Conduct basic geotechnical measurements and field data collection as required.
  • Complete GPS surveys of collars, sample locations, and other field data points.
  • Support regional field work including mapping support, soil sampling, prospecting, and reconnaissance programs as required.
  • Communicate field progress, issues, and opportunities to the Exploration Superintendent and technical team.
  • Supervise and train field technicians in safe work practices, SOPs, and daily responsibilities.
  • Maintain and improve SOPs for field execution and technician activities.
  • Conduct workplace inspections, identify hazards, and support corrective actions.
  • Manage inventories of field supplies, consumables, and equipment; coordinate re-orders as required.
  • Organize warehouse, core storage, and field staging areas to maintain efficient operations.
  • Operate, inspect, and maintain tools, light equipment, and vehicles in accordance with company standards.
  • Maintain high standards in safety, environmental compliance, and housekeeping practices.

 

Required Experience and Skill Set

  • 5+ years of experience in mineral exploration, drilling support, or field operations.
  • Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience with field crews or technicians.
  • Experience supporting diamond drilling programs and sample management.
  • Experience with GPS, navigation, and field data collection.
  • Ability to safely operate tools, light equipment, and 4x4 vehicles.
  • Experience with telehandlers, skid steers, ATVs, or similar equipment is an asset.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft 365.

Job Conditions

  • Combination of field and support facility work.
  • Full proficiency in English.
  • Travel within Ontario.

Certifications

  • Valid driver's license.

Education

  • High school diploma, General Education Development (GED), or combination of education and work-related experience.
  • Technical diploma or related field training is an asset.

 

The salary range for this position is from $95,700.00 to $143,500.00.
