Job Title:  Environmental Specialist

The Greenstone Mine commenced production in May 2024 and will be one of Canada's largest open-pit gold mines, with annual production expected to average nearly 400,000 ounces of gold per year for an initial 14-year mine life with additional potential from a large underground deposit. Greenstone Gold Mines LP is owned by Equinox Gold Corp, a Vancouver-based mining company with five operating mines in Canada, the United States, Mexico and Nicaragua.

Job Summary

We are seeking an Environmental Specialist to join our team. Reporting to the Environmental Superintendent, the Environmental Specialist will be responsible for overseeing all environmental data systems, ensuring data integrity, regulatory compliance, and high-quality analysis and reporting. The position requires a broad base of scientific knowledge, technical skills, and environmental database management experience.

This position will be on a 14 days on / 14 days off rotation at the mine site in Geraldton, ON.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary administrator for EQuIS (Collect, SPM, Professional, Enterprise, Live), including configuration, workflows, and change management oversight.
  • Implement trigger alerts for internal and regulatory limit exceedances to enable rapid communication and corrective action.
  • Lead the full data lifecycle for environmental monitoring programs (water, air, effluent), ensuring accurate and timely data entry, validation, and reporting to systems such as MEWS, MERS, WTRS, and RSRS.
  • Support monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting, internally and with external consultants.
  • Maintain documentation systems for environmental data, reports, and supporting materials.
  • Lead by example and establish a safety culture through participation in daily, weekly, and monthly safety meetings.
  • Assist with environmental monitoring activities on an as-needed basis (surface water, groundwater, inspections, and others as assigned).

 

Required Experience and Skill Set

  • 3+ years of relevant work experience, with preference given to candidates with experience in the mining industry.
  • Knowledge of relevant environmental legislation, standards, and effective industry practices.

Certifications

Education

  • Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Environmental Management, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or related discipline.

The salary range for this position is from $98,025.00 to $119,808.00.
