Job Title:  Continuous Improvement Superintendent

The Greenstone Mine commenced production in May 2024 and will be one of Canada's largest open-pit gold mines, with annual production expected to average nearly 400,000 ounces of gold per year for an initial 14-year mine life with additional potential from a large underground deposit. Greenstone Gold Mines LP is owned by Equinox Gold Corp, a Vancouver-based mining company with seven other operating mines in the United States, Mexico and Brazil.

 

Greenstone Mine is seeking a Continuous Improvement Superintendent to join our team. This position plays a pivotal role within the organization, responsible for leading the continuous improvement program and fostering a culture of excellence at the mine site. The role entails spearheading initiatives across all functions, ensuring seamless integration and effective management of complex, multi-workstream projects.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE:

  • Work in partnership with the operational leadership team to design and implement a method of work that will drive a culture of exposing and solving problems to improve the business bottom line results.
  • Engage with the leadership team to secure alignment and support in defining the strategic direction and execution plans for each proposed improvement initiative.
  • Assemble and lead cross-functional teams and subject matter experts to ensure an effective integrated team is deployed for the initiative
  • Depending on needs, manage or lead the day-to-day execution of initiatives
  • Provide guidance and development opportunities for team members, mentor and coach junior staff, and foster a collaborative and high-performing team environment.
  • Assess key performance indicators (KPIs), management routines, action plans, follow-ups, and closeouts, ensuring alignment with the Business Plan to evaluate the effectiveness of each plant's performance management approach.

JOB DIMENSIONS

  • Provide specialist advice across all levels of the organization to guide and deliver results through continuous improvement methodology (Lean, Six Sigma, etc).
  • Negotiation and influencing positive outcomes with teams and departments to achieve the yearly targets.
  • Develop short, medium, and long-term roadmaps for continuous improvement implementation, ensuring process stabilization and enhanced delivery capability.
  • Develop and implement actionable improvement plans that drive cost savings and production increases, directly supporting overall production goals.
  • Successfully build roadmaps with sustainable action plans that can improve the bottom line and enable the Mine site to optimize its P&L while also engaging all employees in continuous improvement actions/events/programs.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

  • Skilled in influencing and mentoring to drive positive outcomes.
  • Ability to perform high-level analysis to define business improvement requirements to support value capturing in the short, medium, and long term.
  • Highly competencies for change agent.
  • Solid knowledge and practical experience in leading the implementation of continuous improvement projects, with a wide range of tools such as Six Sigma, Lean Thinking, standardized work, problem-solving methodologies, etc.
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive and cooperative working relationships with a wide variety of internal and external interfaces to the company.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and conflict resolution/negotiation skills

EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION

  • Undergraduate Degree
  • Continuous Improvement / Lean Certification is considered an asset.
  • 11–15 years of experience in developing and executing improvement plans within mining operations.

LOCATION

This position is primarily site-based, with a work rotation structured to accommodate both employee and employer needs
