Job Title:  Apprentice Heavy Equipment Technician

The Greenstone Mine commenced production in May 2024 and will be one of Canada's largest open-pit gold mines, with annual production expected to average nearly 400,000 ounces of gold per year for an initial 14-year mine life with additional potential from a large underground deposit. Greenstone Gold Mines LP is owned by Equinox Gold Corp, a Vancouver-based mining company with four operating mines in Canada, the United States, Mexico and Nicaragua.

Job Summary

We are seeking a Heavy Equipment Technician Apprentice to join our team. Reporting to the Mine Maintenance Supervisor, the Heavy Equipment Technician Apprentice is responsible for following the direction of Supervisors/Journeyperson HETs in conducting repairs, overhauls, and new builds to mining-related equipment. This position will use reasoning skills in diagnosing and troubleshooting functions.

This position will be based in Geraldton, Ontario on a rotational basis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assisting with equipment assemblies, preventative maintenance, repairs, and complete overhauls on heavy mining equipment according to schedule.
  • Diagnose faults or malfunctions using computerized or other testing equipment to determine the extent of repair required.
  • Make recommendations regarding extent of repairs and suggest methods of improvement.
  • Interpret work order and technical manuals.
  • Complete job-specific reports and paperwork as needed.
  • Have a strong awareness and attitude towards workplace health and safety and follow all rules and legislation.

 

Required Experience & Skill Set

  • Prior experience in an industrial setting; mine site experience is an asset.

  • Experience with Komatsu, CAT, Epiroc equipment is an asset.

Certifications

  • Valid driver's license.

Education

  • Enrolled in the Canadian Apprenticeship Program.

The salary range for this position is from $83,866.93 to $122,574.74.
