Job Title:  Geologist III

Job Summary

Reporting to the Superintendent, you will be part of the Geology Department. You will ensure that the Company's goals and objectives are achieved while promoting and respecting Equinox Gold's values, Health & Safety Code of Conduct, and the environment.

This position follows a 14 days on, 14 days off rotational schedule.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the day-to-day activities of the Mine Geology team, providing technical direction, mentorship, coaching, performance feedback, training, workforce planning, scheduling, and ensuring adequate operational coverage.
  • Provide technical oversight and accountability for grade control activities, including reverse circulation (RC) drilling and sampling, blast hole (BH) sampling, drill pattern releases, and associated ore, waste, and acid rock drainage-metal leaching (ARD-ML) sampling requirements.
  • Oversee material release activities (packets/polygons/dig blocks), including geological interpretation and timely communication of ore and waste boundaries to Mine Operations.
  • Provide geological input into short-range (2WK), mid-range (3MR and Bench Master), and long-range mine planning, supporting review, validation, and approval processes to ensure geological risks and opportunities are appropriately incorporated into mine plans.
  • Support geological database management, data validation, grade control reconciliation, and continuous improvement of geological data workflows in collaboration with the Resource Geologist, Senior Database & Reconciliation Geologist, and Geology Superintendents.
  • Maintain high standards of geological data quality and QA/QC, ensuring sampling procedures, data validation, and the appropriate use and review of blanks, standards, duplicates, and other quality control samples.
  • Collaborate closely with Mine Operations, Engineering, Metallurgy, Exploration, Environmental, and other stakeholders to support safe, efficient, and effective execution of the mine plan.
  • Prepare, review, and maintain technical reports, process maps, standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and other departmental documentation in accordance with company and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead or support investigations, problem-solving initiatives, corrective actions, and continuous improvement projects related to safety, grade control, sampling, data quality, reconciliation, and operational performance.
  • Promote a strong safety culture by ensuring compliance with health and safety, environmental, company, and regulatory requirements, and by reinforcing accountability, hazard identification, and safe work practices within the Mine Geology team.
  • Provide senior-level technical and operational support during staffing shortages, peak workload periods, or as directed by the Geology Superintendents.

 

Required Experience and Skill Set

  • 5+ years of mine geology and supervisory experience in open-pit mining operations; underground mining experience is considered an asset.
  • Experience with Archean orogenic lode gold deposits, including an understanding of their geological and structural controls, is preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail, with excellent computer, data management, analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and reporting skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary and culturally diverse teams.
  • Proficiency with industry-standard geological and mining software, including IMDEXHUB-IQ, Seequent MX Deposit, Seequent Leapfrog Central, Seequent Leapfrog Geo, Seequent Leapfrog Edge, Datamine Studio RM, Datamine Ore Controller, Deswik Spatial, QGIS, Orica OREPro 3D, and the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Demonstrated commitment to maintaining high standards of health and safety, environmental stewardship, and professional conduct.

Job Conditions

  • Remote location working environment.
  • This position is primarily site-based, with a work rotation structured to accommodate both employee and employer needs.

Certifications

  • Registered, or eligible to register, as Professional Geoscientist or Engineer.
  • Eligibility for registration as a G.I.T. or P.Geo. with Professional Geoscientists Ontario (PGO).

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Geology or related discipline.
  • Master’s degree in Geology, Earth Sciences, or a related field is an asset.
