Job Title:  Financial Analyst

The Greenstone Mine commenced production in May 2024 and will be one of Canada's largest open-pit gold mines, with annual production expected to average nearly 400,000 ounces of gold per year for an initial 14-year mine life with additional potential from a large underground deposit. Greenstone Gold Mines LP is owned by Equinox Gold Corp, a Vancouver-based mining company with seven other operating mines in the United States, Mexico and Brazil.

Greenstone Mine is seeking a Financial Analyst to join our team. Reporting to the Mine Controller, the Financial Analyst is responsible for providing financial insights and support to the mining operations and management team. You will be responsible for analyzing financial data, preparing reports, forecasting budgets, and making strategic recommendations to optimize financial performance and drive decision-making within the mining organization. Your analytical skills and understanding of the mining industry will be instrumental in ensuring the financial success and sustainability of the mining operations.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE:

 

1. Financial Analysis and Reporting:

  • Conduct thorough financial analysis of mining operations, including cost analysis, revenue analysis, and profitability assessments.
  • Prepare and present financial reports to management, highlighting key performance indicators, financial trends, and potential areas for improvement.
  • Assist in the development of financial models to evaluate the economic viability of mining projects and investment opportunities.

 

2. Budgeting and Forecasting:

  • Collaborate with the finance team and operational managers to develop annual budgets and long-term financial forecasts for mining operations.
  • Monitor and analyze budget-to-actual performance, identifying variances and providing recommendations for corrective actions.

 

3. Cost Management:

  • Track and analyze mining costs, identifying cost-saving opportunities and efficiency improvements.
  • Work closely with operational teams to optimize cost allocation and cost control measures.

 

4. Capital Investment Analysis:

  • Evaluate capital investment proposals, considering factors such as payback period, return on investment (ROI), and internal rate of return (IRR).
  • Provide financial justification for investment decisions and support the preparation of business cases for new mining projects.

 

5. Risk Assessment and Compliance:

  • Analyze financial risks associated with mining operations and recommend risk mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations, accounting standards, and company policies.

 

6. Data Management and Systems:

  • Manage financial databases and systems to ensure accurate and up-to-date financial information is available for analysis and reporting.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and automation within financial reporting and data management.

 

7. Market and Industry Research:

  • Stay informed about market trends, industry developments, and commodity prices that may impact the financial performance of the mining operations.
  • Provide insights into market conditions and their potential effects on the mining business.

 

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
  • Proven experience as a Financial Analyst, preferably in the mining or natural resources industry.
  • Strong understanding of mining financial principles, including cost accounting, capital budgeting, and financial modeling.
  • Proficiency in financial analysis tools and software (e.g., Microsoft Excel, financial modeling software).
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and draw actionable insights.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively present financial findings and recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and provide financial support to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy in financial reporting.
  • Knowledge of relevant financial regulations and compliance standards in the mining industry.

LOCATION

  • This position will be based in Geraldton, Ontario.
