Job Title:  Environmental Coordinator

The Greenstone Mine commenced production in May 2024 and will be one of Canada's largest open-pit gold mines, with annual production expected to average nearly 400,000 ounces of gold per year for an initial 14-year mine life with additional potential from a large underground deposit. Greenstone Gold Mines LP is owned by Equinox Gold Corp, a Vancouver-based mining company with seven other operating mines in the United States, Mexico and Brazil.

Greenstone Gold Mines is seeking an Environmental Coordinator to join our Team. Reporting to the Senior Environmental Supervisor, the Environmental Coordinator will be responsible for the coordination of environmental compliance monitoring at the mine and the implementation of Greenstone Gold Mines environmental commitments. The position requires a broad base of scientific knowledge, technical skills, and environmental project management experience.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE:

  • Coordinate the implementation of our environmental monitoring program including environmental sampling, environmental site inspections, and environmental incident investigation
  • Develop field procedures and provide training on collecting samples and monitoring data outlined by environmental permits, regulations, and systems in accordance with sampling protocols.
  • Assist in the development of environmental programs and practices to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and permits.
  • Provide direction and training for environmental monitoring technicians and contractors
  • Compile and review laboratory data to identify trends and maintain site compliance.
  • Lead by example and establish a safety culture through participation in daily, weekly, and monthly safety meetings.
  • Perform ongoing inspections and risk assessments to identify and address unsafe conditions or hazards in the workplace.
  • Participate in the development of Greenstone Gold Mine’s Environmental Management System and conduct internal audits.
  • Liaise with the project team to advise and provide guidance ensuring the execution of earthworks is in full compliance with permits, management plans and regulations.

EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICAITONS & EDUCATION

  • Diploma or Bachelors degree in Environmental Management, Science or Engineering
  • Five (5+) years of relevant work experience with preference to those with experience in the mining industry
  • Experience with environmental data management and report writing
  • Knowledge of relevant environmental legislation, standards, and effective industry practices in Ontario.
  • Valid Driver’s License

 

LOCATION

  • This position will be on a rotational basis at the mine site in Geraldton, ON
