The Greenstone Mine commenced production in May 2024 and will be one of Canada's largest open-pit gold mines, with annual production expected to average nearly 400,000 ounces of gold per year for an initial 14-year mine life with additional potential from a large underground deposit. Greenstone Gold Mines LP is owned by Equinox Gold Corp, a Vancouver-based mining company with seven other operating mines in the United States, Mexico and Brazil.
Greenstone Mine is seeking a Drill and Blast Technician to join our team on a permanent/full-time basis. Reporting to the Mine Engineering Superintendent, the Drill and Blast Technician is responsible for supporting short-range mine planning, drill & blast engineering, and survey of the open pit, which is currently in the early phases of mining. The Drill and Blast Technician can gain various experience through rotations within the department’s teams as well as potentially gain operational experience. The Drill and Blast Technician will support the different teams in their deliverables to accomplish the safe production at the mine
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE:
- Follow health, safety, and environmental policies and regulations at all times.
- Plan out and design drill & blast patterns in Deswik.IS OPDB and ViewShot3D.
- Monitor the progress and quality of drilling, charging, blasting, overburden stripping, excavation, and preparatory field work.
- Perform field inspections, blast access control, and blast filming using a flying drone.
- Document and evaluate the results of blasts.
- Assist the short-range planning engineer in the daily planning meetings and the weekly update of 2-week mine plan in Deswik.IS
- Assist the survey group in collecting, processing, and the presentation of survey data.
- Design mine structures such as haul road, pits, and stockpiles.
- Coordinate and communicate between the engineering group and the operations group to transmit information, plans, and reports.
- Follow proper document control to ensure information is organised and readily accessible.
- Assist Drill and Blast crew with drill hole design and drill pattern preparation.
- Complete drill and blast designs/layouts and tie-ins.
- Maintain accurate as-built models of active pit & dump areas.
- Assist with month end survey reconciliation work and maintain accurate month end records.
- Ensure mine plans are executed to meet operation needs.
- Assist Ore Control personnel as required.
- Contribute to short range planning (i.e., daily/weekly), within areas of expertise.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION
- Two-to-three-year post-secondary in Mine Engineering (required).
- Preference given to candidates with previous work experience at an operating mine site.
- Open-pit or gold mining an asset.
- Experience in drill & blast design (required).
- Short range mine planning an asset.
- Proficiency with mining CAD software (required), Deswik preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, Outlook, SharePoint (required).
- Access, or other database software an asset.
- Valid driver’s license (required).
LOCATION
- This position will be on a rotational basis (14 days on site; 14 days off) at the Greenstone Mine site at 7921 Highway 11, Geraldton, ON, P0T 1M0, Canada.
