Director, Financial Applications

Equinox Gold is a growth-focused Canadian mining company with seven operating gold mines, construction underway at a new project, and a clear path to achieve more than one million ounces of annual gold production from a pipeline of development and expansion projects.

 

Job description:

Reporting to the Vice President of Technology, the Director of Financial Applications would lead the development and transformation of the Company’s Financial Applications (FinApps), working with business teams distributed across four countries, seven operating mines and a construction project. The Director of Financial Applications will play an important role in defining and implementing a refreshed strategy for the company’s FinApps, while leveraging the wide range of FinApps functionalities that are not being fully utilized. The position is based in Vancouver and requires travel to the Company’s sites in Canada, the USA, Mexico, and Brazil.

 

Responsibilities:

As the Director of Financial Applications, you will be accountable for:

  • Assessing the potential breadth and depth of existing FinApps to quickly take advantage of the available functionalities that are currently not being used.
  • Leading multi-functional global projects related to enterprise resource planning (ERP) process automation, ERP integration, and systems enhancements to meet specific business requirements for asset maintenance, procurement, warehouse, accounting, financial reporting, etc.
  • Managing the IT General Controls and IT Application Controls for FinApps in a Sarbanes-Oxley environment and managing the remediation processes for any deficiencies identified during both internal and external audits.
  • Building synergies between cross-functional teams and domain experts and overseeing successful delivery of various ongoing projects and initiatives.
  • Leveraging a lean and focused approach towards FinApps adoption and value realization across the Company.
  • Leading a Company-wide committee that oversees and coordinates FinApps best practices, enhancements, and operability.
  • Identifying opportunities and developing a roadmap for increasing business effectiveness and productivity through business process automation and continuous improvements.
  • Establishing governance, policies, and procedures for the Company’s ERP systems.
  • Effectively negotiating with application and IT vendors and managing them to successfully deliver projects and services.
  • Ensuring that processes, including those of external service providers, are conducted in line with Equinox Gold’s corporate standards and industry-leading practices.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as may reasonably be requested by the VP Technology.

 

Required experience and skill set:

  • Must have extensive proven experience with SAP S/4 HANA and SAP ECC.
  • Applied experience in SAP SuccessFactors and OneStream would be considered an asset.
  • Experience with Datasul would be considered an asset.
  • 7+ years of people management experience, including building and leading high-performing teams.
  • 10+ years of experience in leading the implementation and management of large-scale FinApps, preferably in mining or other capital-intensive or extractive industries, including asset maintenance planning.
  • Well-developed project management and risk management skills. Certifications such as PMP, Agile and ITIL would be considered an asset.
  • Track record in delivering major ERP enhancement projects on time, on budget and to specification.
  • 10+ years of experience in managing external IT services providers and managing the risk and cost implications of IT contracts and contract negotiations.
  • Collaborative leader able to embrace complexity and drive results by building consensus.
  • Professional Accounting designation (CPA, CGA) would be considered an asset.
  • speaking Portuguese / Spanish / French would be considered an asset.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Accounting and Finance Management, Business Administration or equivalent.
  • Able to travel frequently for up to 3 weeks at a time to locations where Equinox Gold is operating.
