Manager, Financial Systems

Job description:

Reporting to the VP, Accounting and External Reporting, the Manager, Financial Systems is a key position within the Finance group to support our drive for excellence within financial systems and processes. With a deep understanding of both financial systems and the business, this role will support the design and establishment of optimal systems/architecture/processes for financial and management reporting across all business units, integration of mine site ERP systems with the corporate consolidation system, transactions, and general ledger accounting, as well as data-mining, analysis and reporting from these systems.



  • Supports the development and roll-out of financial systems to develop data platforms that enable efficient collection and consolidation of data and reporting.
  • Acts as an internal expert on systems integration and implementation, ensuring the optimal design of business specifications.
  • Liaises with users to provide direction and advice on methods to address business needs through improved use of automated tools, and to facilitate discussion on future requirements. In consultation with users, prepares business cases to document and assist in refining revised work processes and implementing improvements.
  • Working together with the IT Team, leads financial systems projects by adhering to project management methodologies, managing project timelines, implementing change management strategies, defining tasks, identifying resource needs, and reporting on project status. Participates in the project design phases as required.
  • Consults with mine-site teams to define opportunities to improve ERP capabilities, standardize finance processes and implement new standards.
  • Tests systems and provides system integration support.
  • Develops reporting specifications and builds reports to meet end user requirements.
  • Provides technical guidance and training to financial system users.
  • Partnering with the IT Team, monitors performance of vendors when required to ensure standards are followed and requirements are met. Liaises with vendor to resolve any problems.
  • Ensures consistent practices and controls are implemented throughout the financial system environment to maintain data and reporting integrity.
  • Researches, evaluates, and recommends new and emerging technology; maintains knowledge of current trends and advancements in the field.
  • Undertakes systems maintenance and audit  tasks and work with the technical support teams within the IT organization to ensure that the reliability and performance of the system is maximized.
  • Performs other related duties as required.



  • University degree in Accounting or related field and a professional accounting designation
  • Five to seven years of experience, with a minimum 2 years of experience in a similar role, including experience as a project manager, preferably with a high-growth, multi-jurisdictional public company and/or a Big 4 accounting firm
  • Experience managing complex system implementations, involving multiple modules and data migration
  • Excellent Excel skills; expertise with financial systems, including SAP, and report writing
  • Strong problem identification, problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Excellent communication skills. Team player with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build partnerships across the organization and motivate teams when working with all business units and operations
  • Attention to detail, with ability to work independently and manage multiple and competing priorities and deadlines
  • Experience in the mining industry and the ability to communicate in Spanish and/or Portuguese are highly desirable but not required
  • Demonstrated commitment to best practices and operational excellence
  • Travel and work at mine sites, as required.
